In a major development, Army Colonel Vikrant Prasher, an award-winning officer of the Indian Army, has been appointed as the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) for Jammu and Kashmir Police. This decision was confirmed by a government order issued on Friday night. Colonel Prasher is currently serving at the Para High Altitude Warfare School located in Gulmarg.

He joined the company as Director on deputation from the Ministry for a period of two years from the date of joining. By following the order of Chandrakar Bharti, the Principal Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir Home Department, Colonel Prasher will be treated in all respects like SSP.

This move is likely to enhance its security in Jammu and Kashmir region where there is rising militant activities. Terrorists groups in the region have graduated in the use of technology and training making it difficult for the security forces to counter them. Colonel Prasher’s experience in combating Militants in the snow bound region of Siachen is likely to enhance the efficiency of the local police force to tackle these challenges.
Hence the new SSP Col Prasher will be more concerned with training and special operations within JK police. He has leadership that seeks to enhance the capacities and organizational competencies in readiness concerning the changing security threats within the region.
The appointment has been carefully embraced to ensure increased security and stability in Jammu and Kashmir amidst acts of terrorism.
