On September 29, 2024, Udhayanidhi Stalin was appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. His father, MK Stalin, who is the Chief Minister, made this important decision. Udhayanidhi is also the Minister of Sports and now has additional responsibilities for Planning and Development.
Udhayanidhi Stalin Becomes Deputy Chief
The swearing-in ceremony was conducted at the Raj Bhavan compound in Chennai. Udhayanidhi Stalin and others took oath as a Minister in the presence of Governor RN Ravi. V Senthil Balaji was also brought back as Minister of Electricity, Prohibition & Excise. He has also served in this capacity prior to the present role in May 2021 to June of 2023.

Besides Udhayanidhi Stalin and Senthil Balaji, the ministers who were sworn in for the first time include Dr Govi Chezhiaan who became the Minister for Higher Education and R Rajendran who began his ministry in the Tourism Ministry. SM Nasar is now the Minister of Ministry of Minorities affair and Non-Resident Tamils affairs.
In all, New cabinet list included both experienced ministers who have been recalled and newcomers in the ministries. K Ponmudy is the current Minister for Forest, Environment and Climate change, while Siva V Meyyanathan is Backward Class Welfare Minister. N Kayalvizhi Selvaraj looks after Human Resources Management and Ex-Servicemen Welfare and for Adi Dravidar & Tribal Welfare M Mathiventhan takes care.
Some of them, who were removed from the ministers’ list were T Mano Thangaraj and K Ramachandran. These changes in the cabinet have come after the Chief Minister has found new faces for the new state cabinet and the governor has accepted him.
This reshuffle is quite important as it happens within the aftermath of V Senthil Balaji’s bail in a Money Laundry case in the Supreme Court of India. His return to the cabinet has brought new change in Tamil Nadu’s politics.
Udhayanidhi Stalin has been made Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh which seemed to be a big leap in his political career. With this new role, he will collaborate with the father to more fully chart the course for Tamil Nadu.
