Why Marlon Wayans' Family Left 'In Living Color': Comedian Reveals Reasons Behind Their Departure

Marlon Wayans recently discussed why his family left the popular comedy show “In Living Color” during its peak. The show, which started in 1990 and ran for five seasons, was created by Marlon’s brother, Keenen Ivory Wayans.

Why Marlon Wayans Left Color?

Marlon explained on the Club Shay Shay podcast that the family decided to leave the show because it was negatively impacting Keenen’s finances. Marlon recalled, “I remember when we left In Living Color because Fox was syndicating the show, and Keenen said, ‘No way, you’re not doing this to me.’ My family said, ‘Forget the money,’ and we all left.”

Initially, “In Living Color” was a launchpad for many stars like Jennifer Lopez, Jim Carrey, and Jamie Foxx. It became a family affair when Marlon, Keenen, and their siblings Damon, Kim, and Shawn Wayans joined the cast.

Despite being offered large sums of money to stay, Marlon’s family chose to support Keenen and leave the show. Marlon noted that the show’s fifth season took a strange turn, mentioning that Chris Rock joined at a time when the show’s original charm had faded.

After leaving “In Living Color,” Marlon found himself financially struggling but motivated to work harder. This effort led to his successful work on the “Wayans Bros.” show, which aired from 1995 to 1999. He also produced the first two “Scary Movie” films and appeared in other movies like “Requiem for a Dream” and “Dungeons & Dragons.”
