Julianne Hough Discusses Love
During a recent interview on The Jamie Kern Lima Show podcast, the 36-year-old actress and dancer reflected on how much her life has changed since she made her announcement in a 2019 interview with Women’s Health magazine. She described the process of coming out as both challenging and empowering, emphasizing that her experience wasn’t about fitting into a specific label such as straight, gay, or bisexual, but rather about embracing love in a broader sense.
Julianne Hough explained that she has come to understand her feelings for people regardless of their gender, focusing more on their inner qualities rather than their sexual orientation. She stated, “It’s more about learning what love truly is. I love people. I don’t know what I’m attracted to, but I choose you.”
In the 2019 interview with Women’s Health, Hough talked about her relationship with her ex-husband, NHL player Brooks Laich. At the time, she was on a journey of self-discovery and revealed to her husband that she was not straight. She expressed that being able to be honest about her identity brought them closer together. Laich was understanding and supportive, allowing her to share her feelings without fear of judgment.
However, after their divorce in 2020, Hough has been open about their relationship challenges. In an earlier appearance on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast, she discussed how both she and Laich have grown more sensitive to their new realities as separate individuals. Despite their split, Hough remains grateful for the relationship, saying, “We’re sad it didn’t work out, but I’ve only dated wonderful people.”
Julianne also expressed how blessed she felt to receive support from her friends, family, and the public after she came out. In a conversation with Extra, she shared, “I feel really lucky. Many people don’t have the platform or support that I do, so I’m incredibly grateful for my family, friends, and fans.” She also emphasized her hope for more support and understanding for other members of the LGBTQ+ community who might not be as fortunate.
