Casting Struggles Behind Laila Majnu
The movie, backed by Imtiaz Ali, faced difficulties in finding the right actress to play Laila. Astha Arora, who was part of the casting team, shared on Instagram that finding a suitable actress was a tough job. She mentioned that the team tested numerous candidates, including well-known actors, Miss India contestants, and college students. Despite their efforts, they struggled to find someone who fit the role perfectly, leading to the film being put on hold in 2016.
The casting process resumed in 2017. During this time, Astha Arora came across Triptii Dimri, who had accompanied her friend for an audition. Arora noticed Triptii and felt she was the perfect fit for Laila. Triptii Dimri auditioned successfully, and her performance was approved by the director and producer.
Triptii had previously auditioned for the film in Delhi but was initially overlooked. This experience highlights how sometimes, despite obstacles, things eventually work out as intended.
Laila Majnu, directed by Sajid Ali and presented by Imtiaz Ali, was co-produced by Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor. Although it struggled to attract audiences initially, it has since become a beloved film, offering a modern retelling of the classic love story of Layla and Majnun.
