Angelina Jolie Responds to Insult
It is a series of emails between the movie producer Scott Rudin and the head of Sony Amy Pascal. It went out to the public and among the nasty words used by Rudin on Jolie were that she is a ‘minimally talented spoiled brat’. The crux of the issue was that Jolie produced a film project that Rudin had wanted Fincher to direct. It is even more shocking to have such reviews on Jolie being offered by none but Rudin whose frustration led him to say this.
In answering the questions concerning the comments, Angelina Jolie showed maturity. In an interview to New York Times she had said, “Well there are definite things that I do get annoyed over and there are things that don’t get to me at all If you were to insult me personally?” This showed that she was confident and had the ability to withstand the insult.
Another director, named David Fincher, who was approached as a director of the Cleopatra movie, also backed Jolie. He said that Rudin’s statement regarding Angelina Jolie influencing him to drop out of Cleopatra was baseless. At that time Fincher said he had not signed to be involved in either of the projects.
After that, Sony refused to continue Rudin’s Steve Jobs biopic and the latter was picked up by Universal. The motion picture Cleopatra which had a brilliant first script by Brian Helgeland was never put into production. However, Denis Villeneuve is now in the process of making another adaptation of Cleopatra, and until then, Helgeland’s idea stays untouched.
This particular event underlined the fact that Angelina Jolie may be hardly attacked in person, yet she behaves like a true professional. Such criticisms were unstoppable, but she never stopped caring for her career and public life, heeding those remarks.
