Michael McCary Discusses Reunion
Michael McCary left Boyz II Men in 2003, and his departure was largely due to health issues. He was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS), a disease that affects the central nervous system. This condition caused him severe back problems, making it difficult for him to continue performing with the group.
In a 2016 appearance on the reality show Iyanla: Fix My Life, McCary spoke about his diagnosis. He explained that the symptoms of MS and the pain he endured forced him to leave the group, and he admitted that his departure had been a difficult decision.
There were also rumors of disagreements and conflicts within Boyz II Men, which added to the reasons for his exit. Michael McCary had been mostly out of the public eye since leaving, but during his recent appearance with the band in Las Vegas on August 30, 2024, he seemed positive about their future together.
While Michael McCary did not perform at the reunion, he spoke to the audience about the possibility of a full reunion. He said, “There will be another day that we’ll all be onstage together, trust me. It’s coming, and I love these guys.”
Shawn Stockman, another member of Boyz II Men, addressed the audience during the reunion. He dismissed the rumors about the conflict, saying they were “100% inaccurate.” He acknowledged that while the group had disagreements over the years, Michael was still their “brother” and would remain so for life.
Stockman expressed that their bond was unbreakable, no matter what they faced. He added that it is normal for people, including band members, to go in different directions in life. He emphasized that those who criticize should reflect on their own conflicts and issues.
However, past tensions seemed to resurface when Stockman recalled an incident from 2021. He mentioned on the FAQ Podcast that he and Michael once had a fistfight, during which Michael slammed a table. Stockman claimed that Michael did not always show up for concerts and lacked motivation compared to other members. He clarified that they still loved Michael but felt frustrated by his actions.
Despite these past challenges, it appears that the members of Boyz II Men are open to a reunion and maintaining their bond as brothers.
