Vatican City is preparing for a unique and star-studded weekend. Pope Leo XIV, the first pope from the United States, will host a special audience with about three dozen Hollywood celebrities, including famous actors Cate Blanchett, Chris Pine, and Adam Scott. The meeting, scheduled for this Saturday, aims to strengthen the connection between the Catholic Church and the world of cinema, highlighting how movies can inspire faith, humanity, and creativity.
Pope Leo XIV Hosts Hollywood Stars at Vatican
According to a statement from the Vatican, the pope wishes to “deepen dialogue with the world of cinema” and explore how artistic storytelling can promote positive human values. The event is being organized by the Vatican’s Culture Office as part of the Holy Year celebrations. While papal gatherings often include high-ranking clergy and world leaders, it is rare for so many Hollywood stars to attend such an event.
The list of attendees includes Oscar-winning directors Spike Lee, George Miller, and Gus Van Sant, along with other well-known artists like Alison Brie, Dave Franco, Viggo Mortensen, Joanna Hogg, Tony Kaye, and Julie Taymor. Their participation shows the growing interest of the film industry in engaging with deeper moral and social themes. The Vatican hopes this exchange will encourage filmmakers to use their influence to tell stories that uplift and inspire people around the world.

This is not the first time a pope has reached out to entertainers. In June 2024, the late Pope Francis hosted a gathering of comedians, including Conan O’Brien, Stephen Colbert, and Jimmy Fallon, celebrating humor as a gift that brings people together. Pope Leo’s meeting continues this tradition, focusing this time on the film industry’s ability to shape global culture and connect with younger audiences through meaningful art.

Ahead of the event, the Vatican revealed four of Pope Leo’s favorite films: It’s a Wonderful Life (1946), The Sound of Music (1965), Ordinary People (1980), and Life Is Beautiful (1997). Each film carries strong messages of hope, love, and compassion values the pope hopes to emphasize through his meeting with Hollywood’s brightest stars. The event marks a new chapter in the Church’s effort to engage with modern culture through art and storytelling.
