Former Smallville actress Allison Mack has spoken publicly for the first time about her dark past with the NXIVM cult and its leader Keith Raniere. In a new podcast titled “Allison After NXIVM”, the 28-year-old actress described how Raniere manipulated her into believing that a physical relationship with him was necessary for her “healing.” Mack shared how she was emotionally controlled and misled under the false promise of spiritual and personal growth.
Allison Mack Reveals NXIVM Cult Leader’s Manipulation
Allison Mack explained that her troubles began when she confided in Raniere about struggling with her sexuality and self-worth. She said she felt disconnected from her body and ashamed of her feelings. According to Mack, Raniere told her that to “heal” she needed to be “physically intimate” with him because it was an “experiential problem.” Believing he was helping her, she agreed, not realizing she was being exploited. She recalled thinking the situation felt “weird,” but convinced herself that Raniere’s actions were part of his “energy work.”
Raniere, once praised as a self-improvement coach, was later exposed as the leader of a sex-trafficking cult disguised as a personal development group. He was convicted in 2020 on several charges, including sex trafficking, racketeering, and forced labor conspiracy, and was sentenced to 120 years in prison. Mack said that under his influence, she truly believed she was the problem and that he was trying to help her overcome her issues. She now admits that Raniere’s manipulation made her lose her sense of judgment and morality.

Allison Mack was arrested in 2018 for her role in NXIVM’s activities. She pleaded guilty to racketeering and conspiracy charges and cooperated with authorities, helping them uncover Raniere’s crimes. Because of her cooperation and remorse, she received a reduced sentence and was released from prison in 2023 after serving two years of a three-year term. In court, she apologized deeply to the women she recruited into the group, calling her actions “a terrible mistake.”
