Actor Ryan Lian’s Attacker Sentenced to Nine Months Jail Following Brutal Knife Incident in Singapore

A man who attacked local actor Ryan Lian last year has been sentenced to nine months in jail. The incident happened outside Nex shopping mall in Singapore on November 22, 2024. Ryan, 40, and the attacker, 22-year-old Aaron Samuel Yukon, did not know each other before the fight. The attack caused multiple injuries to Ryan’s face, including a fracture near his left eye and cuts on his eyebrows and ear.

The fight started when the two men got into a staring incident, which led to a verbal confrontation. During the struggle, Yukon pulled out a karambit knife and slashed Ryan, causing serious injuries. Ryan was hospitalized for two days but was discharged against medical advice. The prosecution said Yukon targeted a vulnerable part of the body in public, which justified a jail term of nine to eleven months.

Yukon’s lawyer argued that Ryan had provoked the incident and restrained Yukon during the struggle. The lawyer said Yukon had no choice but to strike Ryan with the hilt of the knife to escape. Yukon had also suffered injuries to his left hand and arm during the fight. The lawyer requested a shorter jail term of seven-and-a-half months due to these circumstances.

Yukon was previously diagnosed with ADHD as a child, which can lead to impulsive behaviour, according to his lawyer. For voluntarily causing grievous hurt, Yukon could have faced up to 10 years in jail, a fine, or caning. However, the court took into consideration his background and circumstances before deciding on a nine-month sentence.
