Tamil filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj, who is currently working on his upcoming film Coolie with superstar Rajinikanth, has recently shared some exciting updates about his future projects. In a new interview, Lokesh said that he is more interested in making a sequel to his 2021 hit film Master, which starred actor Vijay, than doing a second part of their 2023 film Leo.
Lokesh Kanagaraj Prefers ‘Master 2’ Over ‘Leo 2’
This has come as a surprise to many fans. Ever since Vijay announced his retirement from acting, people assumed that Lokesh might try to bring him back for a possible Leo 2. However, Lokesh revealed that his heart is set on making Master 2 instead. He said he enjoys watching Vijay as the character JD from Master more than as Leo Das from Leo. He also said that he already has a proper idea for the story of Master 2 and Vijay is aware of it. But since Vijay now has other plans in his life, everything depends on timing and his decision.

When asked if Vijay’s retirement means that the character Leo Das will be removed from the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU), Lokesh said that for now, they are planning the universe without him. He explained that his next film will be Kaithi 2, followed by Vikram 2, since both of those stories are incomplete. Leo 2 would come after that, but only if Vijay agrees. Lokesh also mentioned that he has a separate idea for a film with actor Suriya, titled Rolex, which will not be connected to the LCU.
He further explained that he writes each story with a specific actor in mind. For example, Kamal Haasan could not have done the role in Coolie, and Rajinikanth could not have done the role in Vikram. He creates stories that suit the personality and image of each actor. He also said that when he begins writing a film, he writes it as a fan of that actor, trying to include things that fans would love to see.

Coolie, starring Rajinikanth, is scheduled to release on August 14. The film features a star-studded cast including Nagarjuna Akkineni, Upendra, Soubin Shahir, Sathyaraj, and Shruti Haasan. There are also rumors that Bollywood actor Aamir Khan may be part of the project. Pooja Hegde is confirmed to have a special role in the movie. Lokesh has confirmed that Coolie is not a part of the LCU, which includes his earlier films Kaithi, Vikram, and Leo.
