Sanam Teri Kasam Directors Oppose Pakistani Actors, Support Government's Ban Amid Tensions

The directors of the film Sanam Teri Kasam, Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru, recently gave a strong statement against Pakistani actors working in India. This happened after Pakistani actress Mawra Hocane, who played the female lead in the movie, criticized India’s Operation Sindoor on social media. Operation Sindoor was a military response by Indian forces targeting terror camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir after a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam.

Mawra posted on X (formerly Twitter), calling India’s airstrike “cowardly” and claimed innocent lives were lost. Her remarks caused major backlash. Actor Harshvardhan Rane, who starred opposite her in the movie, said he would not be part of a sequel to Sanam Teri Kasam if Mawra is included. He posted on Instagram that he could not work with someone who disrespects his country.

In response to the growing controversy, directors Radhika and Vinay strongly supported the Indian government’s decision to ban Pakistani actors from working in India. They expressed disappointment that actors from Pakistan who gained love and success in India are now silent or making anti-India statements. They said, “Not a single Indian rupee or minute should be given to them. Nation comes first.”

They added that they fully support the government’s stance and believe no Indian platform should work with any Pakistani actors. Their comment reflects the sentiments of many who feel betrayed by those who once benefited from India’s entertainment industry.
