Salman Khan recently found himself in controversy after posting, and then deleting, a message on social media about the India-Pakistan ceasefire. On Saturday night, the actor took to X (formerly Twitter) and wrote, “Thank God for the ceasefire…” This message came shortly after both India and Pakistan officially agreed to halt military operations across the border.

However, Salman’s post quickly drew criticism from some users online. Many people asked why he chose to speak only about the ceasefire and remained silent on Operation Sindoor—a recent military operation by India targeting terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Some questioned his loyalty, saying he should have acknowledged the efforts of Indian soldiers involved in the operation.

Due to the growing backlash, Salman deleted the tweet not long after posting it. While many criticized him, some of his fans came to his support. One fan explained that Salman deleted the post because soon after his tweet, there were reports that Pakistan had already broken the ceasefire agreement. The fan suggested that Salman did not want to be seen supporting something that was no longer true, and that it wasn’t his fault.
This is not the first time Salman Khan has commented on tragic events. After the Pahalgam terrorist attack on April 22 that killed 26 people, including tourists and locals, Salman had expressed his sorrow. In that tweet, he wrote about how Kashmir, once known as paradise, was turning into a land of pain. He said that the death of one innocent person is equal to the destruction of the whole universe.

After the Pahalgam attack, the Indian military launched Operation Sindoor on May 7. The operation aimed to destroy terror infrastructure across the border in response to the ongoing violence.
Though Salman has now deleted his ceasefire post, the debate around his silence on Operation Sindoor continues online. While celebrities are often expected to take stands on national issues, they also face criticism no matter what they say. Salman Khan’s deleted tweet shows how sensitive and complex the situation is when it comes to social media and public opinion.
