The upcoming comedy series Gram Chikitsalay, starring Vinay Pathak, is set to release on Amazon Prime Video on May 9, 2025. But before its release, the show has been caught in controversy. A filmmaker from Kolkata named Anindya Bikas Datta has accused the creators of copying his original script.
Vinay Pathak’s Gram Chikitsalay Faces Plagiarism
Datta claims that the idea and storyline of Gram Chikitsalay are taken from his own script titled Quack Shankar. According to him, he had shared his script with Vinay Pathak in 2021. At that time, he was hoping that Vinay would play one of the lead roles in his film. But now, after watching the trailer of Gram Chikitsalay, Datta believes that the series has copied both his main story and the characters.

In a post on social media, Datta expressed his disappointment. He said he was shocked to see that Vinay Pathak, the same person he shared the script with, is now playing the lead role in a show that seems to be based on his idea. He also said that his own project Quack Shankar is still in pre-production, and he is talking to other actors for casting.
Gram Chikitsalay tells the story of a doctor from the city who tries to restart a closed health center in a small village named Bhathkandi. The show highlights the problems faced by medical professionals working in remote and rural areas. It tries to bring attention to the challenges of giving proper healthcare in villages.
