AICWA : Mahira Khan and Fawad Khan’s recent comments criticizing India have sparked strong reactions in India. The comments followed India’s military operation known as ‘Operation Sindoor,’ which targeted terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. In the aftermath of the operation, Pakistani celebrities Mahira Khan and Fawad Khan spoke out, voicing criticism against India. Their remarks caused a significant amount of controversy.
AICWA Reaffirms Ban on Pakistani Actors
The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA), which represents workers in the Indian entertainment industry, quickly condemned their statements. AICWA expressed strong disapproval of the Pakistani actors, calling their remarks “anti-India” and disrespectful. The association pointed out that their statements were insulting to both the Indian soldiers who sacrificed their lives and the innocent people lost to terrorism. AICWA reaffirmed its ban on Pakistani artists, filmmakers, and anyone associated with the Pakistani entertainment industry from working in India.

This response from AICWA comes as a part of a larger sentiment that has been growing in India regarding the involvement of Pakistani artists in Indian media, especially in light of tensions between the two countries. AICWA’s post on social media made it clear that no Indian artist should collaborate with Pakistani talent, whether it be in films or music. The association also urged Indian music companies and singers to stop working with Pakistani artists, emphasizing the importance of standing with the nation in such times of national crisis.

The controversy has also led to criticism of the movie Abir Gulaal, which stars Fawad Khan. The film’s producers and artists were criticized for casting a Pakistani actor despite the ongoing political tensions, particularly following the Pulwama attack in 2019, in which several Indian soldiers were killed.
Several Bollywood stars have publicly supported the Indian military’s actions and expressed their patriotism. Celebrities like Kangana Ranaut and Akshay Kumar praised India’s response to terrorism and expressed their admiration for the Indian Armed Forces.
In addition, the AICWA made it clear that the Indian entertainment industry must choose whether to support national sentiments or continue collaborating with those who have openly criticized the nation. The association ended its statement with the message “Nation First,” reinforcing the idea that national interests should always come before everything else.
