Both necklaces had their origins in a design by the famous jewelry brand, Jacques Cartier, which originally crafted the piece in 1931 for the Maharaja of Nawanagar. Over the years, the necklace has been passed around, with Cartier even remaking it for Ocean’s 8, reducing the size and the number of diamonds to suit the film’s requirements.

Isha Ambani shared that the necklace at the Met Gala actually belonged to her mother, Nita Ambani. This revelation led many to believe that the Ambanis had drawn inspiration from Cartier’s historical design when creating the piece.
The necklace, originally designed for a man, had gone through multiple changes and transactions, with the central diamond being recut and many of the diamonds used in different pieces. The value of the original necklace, made by Cartier, was reported to be an astonishing $150 million, a testament to the timeless nature of its design and the prestige of the Maharaja’s collection.
