Sunny Deol’s New Film Jaat May Open With Moderate Box Office Numbers on Day 1

Sunny Deol

Sunny Deol has returned to the big screen with his latest action film Jaat, which is being promoted as his first pan-India movie. This film is special because it aims to introduce Sunny Deol to audiences in the South as well. Produced by Mythri Movie Makers, a popular South Indian production house, Jaat comes after the huge success of Gadar 2. Naturally, expectations were high. However, the box office buzz around the film seems to be only average so far.

Sunny Deol’s Jaat Opens Below Expectations

The advance booking of the film ended on Wednesday night. The film made around ₹2.37 crore in pre-sales across India. This is a low number when compared to the advance bookings of Gadar 2, which had earned ₹17.60 crore. Apart from the National Capital Region (NCR), Jaat did not cross ₹1 crore in advance bookings in any major area. This is a sign that the film might face a slow start, especially in bigger cities.

Even though the pre-sales were not strong, there is still hope. Action movies that target mass audiences often see a rise in spot bookings, especially in smaller towns and cities. Sunny Deol has a strong fan base in such areas, and this could help the film earn more through walk-in audiences. By noon on the opening day, Jaat had earned just under ₹2 crore. Trade experts believe that the film might finish the day with around ₹10 crore in total collections.

If Jaat earns ₹10 crore on its first day, it would become Sunny Deol’s second-highest opening after Gadar 2. However, this number is still much lower than what many expected. In comparison, Salman Khan’s film Sikandar opened with ₹25 crore, which means Jaat may earn just 40% of that figure. This shows a clear gap in audience excitement and market reach between the two films.

In fact, if Jaat stays close to ₹10 crore on day one, it will also fall behind Akshay Kumar’s Sky Force, which opened with ₹12 crore earlier this year. For a big-budget action film like Jaat, earning less than ₹15 crore on opening day is seen as a weak start. This means the movie will now have to depend heavily on positive reviews and word of mouth to perform well in the coming days.

Directed by Gopichand Malineni, who is making his debut in Hindi cinema, Jaat features a strong supporting cast including Regina Cassandra, Randeep Hooda, Vineet Kumar Singh, Saiyami Kher, Ramya Krishnan, and Jagapathi Babu. While the film has action, drama, and star power, it remains to be seen whether it can attract larger crowds and continue to grow at the box office over the weekend.

As of now, Jaat seems to be facing a challenging start. However, the true test will be how it performs in the coming days, especially in smaller towns where Sunny Deol still has a loyal fan base.
