Comedian Kunal Kamra has apologized to a banker from Navi Mumbai who had to cut short his vacation after being summoned by the police. The controversy began when Kunal Kamra released his new comedy special, Naya Bharat, on March 24. The show included a song that allegedly referred to Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde, as a “traitor.” This angered Shiv Sena workers, who vandalized the studio where the show was filmed.

The banker, 46, had planned a 17-day trip to Tamil Nadu and Kerala, starting on March 21. However, he received repeated calls from the police, which forced him to return early. The police reportedly suspected that he might have edited Kunal Kamra’s video, despite his claims that he only attended the show as an audience member and had proof of his booking.
The Mumbai Police later denied sending notices to audience members, contradicting earlier reports. Meanwhile, Kamra has been summoned multiple times for questioning, and three cases have been filed against him. He has received anticipatory relief from the Madras High Court, preventing his immediate arrest.
