Manoj Bharathiraja made his acting debut in the movie Taj Mahal, where he not only played the lead role but also sang a song. Though the film brought him recognition, he did not achieve great success as an actor. He appeared in films like Samuthiram, Varushamellam Vasantham, Maanaadu, and Viruman, but none of them gave him a breakthrough like his father’s movies did. Later, he shifted his focus towards becoming a director, inspired by his father.

Manoj Bharathiraja was married to Nandana, his long-time friend, and they shared a close bond. Unfortunately, he had undergone heart surgery just a few weeks before his passing. While his family hoped for his full recovery, his sudden death has left them heartbroken.
Many film personalities, including Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, Ilaiyaraaja, T. Rajendar, Sarathkumar, and Khushbu, expressed their condolences. Actors like Surya, Prabhu, and Vijay visited his family to pay their respects.
Actor Napoleon, who was introduced to Tamil cinema by Bharathiraja, shared an emotional post about Manoj’s passing. He recalled meeting Bharathiraja’s daughter, Janani, just two weeks before Manoj’s death, where she had mentioned that her brother was doing well. His sudden passing came as a shock to everyone.
