AR Murugadoss, the well-known filmmaker behind movies like Ghajini and Darbar, is now working with Salman Khan on the upcoming film Sikandar. He shared that when making a film with a superstar, it is difficult to stay completely true to the script. According to him, directors need to consider the expectations of fans and ensure that the film has all the elements that appeal to them.
AR Murugadoss on Salman Khan’s Sikandar
AR Murugadoss has worked with many South Indian superstars, including Rajinikanth, Vijay, Suriya, Ajith Kumar, Mahesh Babu, and Chiranjeevi. He said that superstars take their stardom very seriously and work hard to maintain their popularity. They are dedicated to their fan base, and as a filmmaker, he must respect that.

Talking about Sikandar, he said that this film is made for Salman Khan’s fans but will also be different from his previous movies. He compared it to Ghajini, which had a strong love story. Similarly, Sikandar will have a deep emotional connection, focusing on family and relationships. The story highlights how people are so busy with their lives that they do not get enough time to spend with their loved ones.
AR Murugadoss revealed that he had wanted to work with Salman Khan since 2014. While directing Holiday, he met Salman and expressed his desire to make a film with him. Salman agreed, but the right script took time to develop. Years later, when producer Sajid Nadiadwala contacted Murugadoss for a new project, he felt Salman would be perfect for the role. After months of scriptwriting, they finally met, and Salman liked the idea.
During filming, AR Murugadoss and Salman had different views on some scenes. When they could not decide, they shot both versions and chose the best one during editing. The film stars Rashmika Mandanna as the female lead, along with Kajal Aggarwal, Sathyaraj, and Prateik Babbar in important roles. Despite the age difference between Salman and Rashmika, Murugadoss said the story justifies it because Salman’s character is shown getting married late in life.
Apart from Sikandar, AR Murugadoss is also working on another film, Madharasi, starring Sivakarthikeyan. He had planned to complete Madharasi first, but when Salman decided to prioritize Sikandar, the director requested some time to finish it later.
