Hollywood actress Naomi Watts has shared her struggles with pregnancy while she was in a relationship with actor Liev Schreiber. In her new book, Dare I Say It: Everything I Wish I’d Known About Menopause, she speaks openly about her journey to motherhood, including her challenges with fertility treatments and emotional struggles.
Naomi Watts on Pregnancy Struggles
Naomi Watts always wanted to become a mother. When she was with Liev Schreiber, she was determined to have children as soon as possible. However, she faced difficulties because her hormone levels made her unsuitable for IVF (In Vitro Fertilization). Despite this, she tried other fertility treatments such as Clomid (a fertility drug) and intrauterine insemination (IUI).
Watts admitted that she was desperate to conceive. She tracked her ovulation, checked her body temperature daily, and even monitored her body’s pH levels because she had heard that sperm survive better in an alkaline environment. She said she would have spent all her money just to solve this problem.
The actress revealed that her obsession with pregnancy put a strain on her relationship with Liev Schreiber. However, she was determined not to give up. She frequently used pregnancy tests, sometimes testing just an hour after a missed period.
While filming Eastern Promises, Watts finally became pregnant. However, because of a previous miscarriage, she decided not to share the news immediately. She wanted to continue working as usual to avoid any complications.
One day, while filming a scene with actress Sinead Cusack, she felt her baby move for the first time. This was an emotional moment for her, and she knew her baby was strong and healthy.
Watts and Schreiber eventually had two children—Sasha, now 17, and Kai, now 16. The couple later separated in 2016 but have remained on good terms while co-parenting their children.
