Anna Kendrick recently opened up about her challenging experience performing with Justin Timberlake at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. Promoting their animated film Trolls, the duo sang a heartfelt version of True Colors by Cyndi Lauper, despite both battling illness at the time.
Anna Kendrick’s Cannes Singing Challenge
In a recent appearance on the Armchair Expert podcast hosted by Dax Shepard, Anna Kendrick reflected on the pressures she felt while sharing the stage with Justin Timberlake. She revealed how singing live while sick became one of her most nerve-wracking moments. Kendrick said Timberlake’s musical talent only added to the intimidation, describing him as “one of the all-time great pop recording artists.”
Kendrick recalled how they repeatedly rehearsed the simple yet emotional version of True Colors. Right before going on stage, Timberlake’s playful vocal warm-ups added to her anxiety. “He started adding riffs, and I asked, ‘Are you really doing it that way?’” she shared. However, Timberlake reassured her, sticking to the plan they had practiced.
