In a recent interview, Veer director Anil Sharma revealed some interesting details about the casting of Zareen Khan in the film, instead of Katrina Kaif. Zareen, who made her Bollywood debut opposite Salman Khan in the 2010 movie Veer, has often been compared to Katrina, especially because of her physical resemblance. However, the casting choice wasn’t intentional, as explained by director Anil Sharma.
Why Zareen Khan Replaced Katrina
Anil Sharma shared that while Katrina Kaif initially wanted to be part of Veer, the filmmakers were aiming to find a fresh face for the role. Salman Khan, who was already working with Katrina, discovered Zareen Khan and recommended her to the director. According to Sharma, Katrina had expressed interest in doing the film, but the team was looking for someone new. That’s when Salman suggested Zareen, and the casting decision was made.

Sharma also acknowledged that Zareen bore a resemblance to Katrina but made it clear that her casting wasn’t because of this similarity. In fact, the director emphasized that Zareen, who comes from a humble background, was cast based on her potential as an actress. Salman Khan’s guidance played an important role in bringing Zareen on board.
However, this comparison has not been easy for Zareen, who has often felt the pressure of being seen as a lookalike of Katrina. In a past interview, she shared how it was difficult to build her own identity in the film industry with such comparisons lingering. She expressed that every actor strives to create a unique identity and not to be seen as another’s replica. Despite these challenges, Zareen has worked hard to carve her space in Bollywood.
On the work front, Salman Khan is now preparing for his upcoming film Sikandar, directed by Sajid Nadiadwala and AR Murugadoss. The teaser of the movie is expected to be released on Salman’s birthday, December 27, 2024. The film features Rashmika Mandanna, Pratiek Babbar, Sathyaraj, and Sharman Joshi, among others.
As for Zareen Khan, her journey continues in Bollywood as she navigates the challenges of her career and identity.
