Musician Marilyn Manson has decided to end his legal battle against actress Evan Rachel Woods, dropping a lawsuit he filed against her in 2021. The lawsuit accused Woods and her friend Illma Gore of conspiring to portray Manson as a serial abuser.
Marilyn Manson Ends Lawsuit
Marilyn Manson lawsuit claimed that Woods and Gore manipulated women into making false allegations of sexual assault against him. It was alleged they used deceptive tactics, such as spreading false information about a 1996 short film created by Manson called Groupie. They claimed the film featured a minor and implied Manson could face legal consequences if it was released.
The lawsuit was filed ahead of the release of Phoenix Rising, a documentary that highlighted Woods’ allegations of abuse against Manson and her advocacy for extending the statute of limitations for domestic violence cases in California.
In 2023, a court dismissed Manson’s defamation claims against Woods, ruling that he failed to prove she had conspired with Gore to defame him. Manson later appealed this decision but sought to settle the case in early 2024.

According to reports, Manson offered to pay a portion of Woods’ legal fees and proposed a confidential settlement. However, Woods declined the offer, leading to Manson eventually dropping the case entirely.
Marilyn Manson lawyer, Howard King, stated that his client was satisfied to end the case after years of “telling the truth.” He said Manson wanted to close this chapter of his life.
Woods’ lawyer, Michael Kump, dismissed the lawsuit as a publicity stunt designed to undermine the credibility of Manson’s accusers. He added, “The trial court correctly found Manson’s claims to be meritless.” Kump further pointed out that Manson’s decision to drop the case and pay Woods’ full legal fees of approximately $327,000 confirmed the lack of substance in his claims.
