Mallika Sherawat, known for her candid personality, recently opened up about why she chose to turn down a role in the series The Royals. The actress was initially offered the role of Ishaan Khatter’s on-screen mother, but she decided not to accept it. According to Mallika, the character she was promised was different from what she saw on paper, which left her feeling disappointed and “cheated.”
Mallika Sherawat Refuses The Royals Role
Speaking in an interview with ETimes, Mallika Sherawat explained that the role seemed “very lame” to her when she saw the final script. She said she was promised something more exciting, but what was delivered did not meet her expectations. “I felt let down,” she shared, adding that the role eventually went to actress Sakshi Tanwar.

Reflecting on her return to Bollywood with her recent project Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, Mallika admitted she was glad to know she was missed by her fans. The actress also expressed her desire for the industry to offer her more roles in comedy, a genre she enjoys but feels she has not been fully utilized in. She mentioned that she wants to take on roles that have more substance and challenge her abilities.
In addition to her Bollywood comeback, Mallika Sherawat also shared that she recently met filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt. Their meeting sparked rumors of a possible future collaboration, with Mallika hinting that Bhatt had an idea for a new project, which they hoped to turn into a film soon.
The Royals, the web series Mallika turned down, has a star-studded cast, including Ishaan Khatter, Bhumi Pednekar, Zeenat Aman, and Nora Fatehi. The series was announced earlier this year and is set to feature a mix of drama and royal romance.
