Comedian Jerry Seinfeld recently expressed his disappointment with a private school in New York that declared a day off for students following the elections. The school made this decision to help students cope with the stress and anxiety that can come from political campaigns.
Jerry Seinfeld Slams School’s Day Off
Jerry Seinfeld spoke to The New York Times about his concerns, stating that such policies only make children feel more anxious. He believes that the school is not helping students by giving them time off but rather teaching them to buckle under pressure. He questioned the judgment of the school’s leaders, asking, “What kind of lives have these people led that makes them think that this is the right way to handle young people?”
This is not the first time Seinfeld has voiced his opinions on education and sensitivity. He shared that one reason he moved his youngest son to another school was because of the policies he found troubling. Seinfeld pointed out that the school charged high fees—around $65,540 per student—but still failed to provide a supportive environment.

The school in question, The Ethical Culture Fieldstone School, announced that attendance would be optional on the day after elections for students feeling emotionally distressed. They also planned to offer counseling sessions for those who needed support. Seinfeld criticized this approach, arguing that it was too accommodating and suggested that it could harm children’s ability to deal with challenges.
Additionally, Jerry Seinfeld has been vocal about the impact of political correctness on comedy. He believes that comedy is suffering due to overly sensitive attitudes. He stated that the best comedy comes from live performances where the audience can immediately give feedback, unlike scripted performances that go through multiple revisions and approvals.
