Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s Controversial Ad
In the ad for an online gaming app, Siddiqui is seen in a Maharashtra police uniform while promoting poker. The Hindu Janjagruti Samiti argues that this portrayal is disrespectful and misrepresents the police force. They believe it could lead to negative perceptions about law enforcement.
Abhishek Murukate, the Maharashtra state coordinator for the organization, wrote a letter to Mumbai Police and the state’s police chief, urging them to take action. The letter cites the Maharashtra Civil Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules and the Maharashtra Police Act, claiming that Siddiqui’s actions amount to defaming the police.
The organization highlights the irony of police being portrayed in a gambling context, given that they typically arrest gamblers. They argue that allowing such ads could lead to more disrespectful representations of law enforcement.
Murukate expressed disappointment that police have not acted against the ad, stating it was unfortunate that concerns had to come from outside sources. He hopes that the Maharashtra home minister, Devendra Fadnavis, will address the issue.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui has been a prominent figure in Bollywood since his debut in 1999 with “Sarfarosh.” He has collaborated with big names like Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, and Salman Khan, earning acclaim for films like “Gangs of Wasseypur,” “Mom,” and “Serious Men.” This controversy is the latest in a series of challenges faced by celebrities in advertising and media.
