Jessica Chastain Reschedules Filming to Support Andrew Garfield During His Mother's Illness

Andrew Garfield recently shared a touching story about Jessica Chastain while promoting his new movie, We Live in Time. The two actors worked together on the film The Eyes of Tammy Faye, which was released in 2021. During the filming, Garfield faced a personal crisis: his mother was very ill with pancreatic cancer.

Understanding the gravity of the situation, Jessica Chastain made a significant sacrifice. She rescheduled their filming dates so Garfield could be with his mother in her final days. He spent ten precious days by her side before she passed away. Garfield expressed deep gratitude for Chastain’s thoughtful gesture, stating, “What was amazing was that [Searchlight Pictures’ David Greenbaum] and Jessica rearranged the schedule last-minute—put filming on hold for a few days so that I could go back to England and be with my mom.”

In addition to Chastain’s kindness, Garfield also praised his co-star Vincent D’Onofrio, who provided support and encouragement during his time of loss. D’Onofrio had experienced a similar situation and told Garfield, “Go. You got to go,” which helped Garfield feel validated in his choice to be with his family.

Garfield also shared that he and Chastain developed a routine during filming. They would often drive together to Heritage USA, a theme park created by Tammy Faye Bakker’s husband, Jim Bakker, whom Garfield portrayed in the film. This drive became a special time for them to bond and build their on-screen chemistry.

The Eyes of Tammy Faye tells the story of the rise and fall of televangelists Tammy Faye and Jim Bakker in the 1970s and 1980s. The film also stars Gabriel Olds, Cherry Jones, and Joe Ando. It is currently available for streaming on Apple TV. Garfield’s next project, We Live in Time, is set to release in theaters on January 1, 2025.

This heartwarming story highlights the strong bond between actors and how compassion can shine through even in difficult circumstances. Jessica Chastain’s selflessness during a critical moment in Andrew Garfield’s life demonstrates the importance of kindness in the film industry.
