Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal recently got married on June 23, 2024. While their wedding made headlines, the couple managed to keep their relationship hidden for seven years before tying the knot. In a recent interview, Sonakshi shared the reason behind their decision to stay private. The actress revealed that she wanted to avoid ‘nazar’ (evil eye) and maintain some personal space, as she felt that being in the spotlight already puts enough focus on one’s life.

During her conversation with CNN-News18, Sonakshi was asked why she kept her relationship with Zaheer a secret for so long. She explained, “Nazar” was a big factor. The actress believes that as a public figure, her life is always exposed, and there is a lot of attention directed at her. To protect the things that are closest to her heart, she chose to keep them private. “You are already so much in the limelight; everybody knows everything about you. Something that is so dear to you should be kept for yourself,” she added.

The couple had a registered marriage in a private ceremony at their home, surrounded by their closest friends and family members. They later took to Instagram to officially announce their wedding and shared some beautiful pictures from the ceremony. In the heartfelt caption, they shared how their love began on the same date seven years ago. The note read, “On this very day, seven years back (23.06.2017), in each other’s eyes, we saw love in its purest form and decided to hold on to it.”
The couple expressed how their love helped them overcome all challenges and guided them to this beautiful moment of becoming husband and wife. They concluded their announcement with a message of hope, saying, “Here’s to love, hope, and all things beautiful with each other, from now until forever.”
After their intimate wedding, the couple held a grand reception the same day. It was attended by several Bollywood stars, including Salman Khan, Kajol, Rekha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, and Sanjay Leela Bhansali, among others. The event was a celebration of love and joy, with many Bollywood personalities coming together to wish the couple a happy married life.
