Nicole Kidman recently took to Instagram to express her gratitude to fans for their love and support following the death of her mother, Janelle Ann Kidman. The 84-year-old passed away earlier this month, and the news was shared by director Halina Reijn during the Venice Film Festival on September 7, 2024. Kidman had to leave the festival early due to the family emergency.

On September 12, Nicole Kidman posted a heartfelt message on Instagram, saying, “My sister and I, along with our family, want to thank you for the outpouring of love and kindness we have felt this week.” She added, “Every message we have received from those who loved and admired our mother has meant more to us than we will ever be able to express. Thank you from our whole family for respecting our privacy as we take care of each other.”
Kidman also shared a carousel of three photos of her mother. The first photo was a solo portrait of a young Janelle, followed by two family pictures featuring Nicole and her sister, Antonia Kidman. Many of Kidman’s industry colleagues and friends offered their condolences in the comments.
In a 2020 interview with the Sydney Morning Herald, Kidman spoke about her mother’s influence on her career. She said, “She’s given me the fire to pursue the career I have because I’ve always wanted to please her.” Kidman also noted that although her mother did not achieve the career she desired, she was determined that her daughters would have equal opportunities.
Nicole Kidman is married to musician Keith Urban, with whom she has two daughters, Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret. She also shares two children, Isabella Jane and Connor, with her ex-husband Tom Cruise.
Kidman’s latest film, “Babygirl,” which features Harris Dickinson, Sophie Wilde, and Antonio Banderas, premiered at the Venice Film Festival. Her recent television project, “The Perfect Couple,” is now available to stream on Netflix, having premiered on September 5, 2024.
