Is The Apprentice Safe from Trump’s Legal Threats? Find Out

When The Apprentice was first shown at Cannes, Trump’s legal team sent a cease-and-desist letter to the filmmakers. They demanded that the film’s distribution in the U.S. be halted, calling the movie a “concoction of lies” that defames Trump and interferes with American elections. Trump’s lawyers set a deadline of May 27, 2024, for the film to be pulled from distribution.

Recent reports indicate that Trump’s team may have decided to drop their legal threats. According to Deadline, Trump’s representatives are now hoping that the film will simply fade from public view without further legal action. This means that, for now, the film appears to be free from serious legal troubles.

Steven Cheung, Trump’s campaign communications director, dismissed the film as “pure fiction” and “sensationalizes lies.” He criticized the movie for misrepresenting Trump’s story.

The film was screened at the Telluride Film Festival on August 31, where Abbasi reiterated that the film is not intended to be a political statement but rather a portrayal of Trump’s rise. Despite the initial legal threats, the film continues to be shown and discussed in various film festivals.

For now, it seems that The Apprentice will not face immediate legal consequences, though the situation could change in the future.
