Jay Shah Becomes ICC’s Youngest Chairman
Being 35 years of age, Jay Shah will be the youngest ICC Chairman ever to be selected for the post. He will be holding the position for three years, but it is renewable for another term of three years. Shah will also have to relinquish his position at BCCI, the company he’s been serving since 2019.
As noted by the ICC, Shah was the sole candidate for the post. The Special General Meeting is aimed at electing ICC directors as planned and 16 directors nominated him. Shah himself did not have to offer any nomination paper.
The management’s work includes selecting a new Independent Woman Director for the ICC, as the position has been open since Indra Nooyi left the position last month. He will also have to deal with Disney Star’s demand to revise a $3 billion broadcast agreement. Also, Shah will have the responsibility of recruiting a new secretary for the BCCI.
Shah also underlined his desire to take cricket to more countries across the globe. He also underlined the upcoming addition of cricket to the list of games in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics as a potential for the sport. Shah wants to level out different forms of the game, implement new forms of the game, advance technologies and expand the markets for cricket globally.
