Follow Kar Lo Yaar Review: Urfi Javed’s Guilty Pleasure Reality Show

Follow Kar Lo Yaar is a new reality series now available on Amazon Prime Video. Directed by Sandeep Kukreja, this show focuses on media personality Urfi Javed and offers viewers an inside look into her life. The series consists of nine episodes, each about 30 minutes long.

Plot Summary Urfi Javed

The show focuses on the life of Urfi Javed with respect to her job of being an influencer. It focuses on the increased commitment to the workplace and the beautiful struggle of trying to remain relevant in today’s constantly evolving technological environment. The series is supposed to capture her life as a mess and her struggle to stay relevant in the public eye. Another way through which Follow Kar Lo Yaar could be similar to shows such as Keeping Up With The Kardashians is in exercising the reality television format.

What Works

It could also be described that Follow Kar Yaar could be enjoyed as ‘guilty’ pleasure by viewers. That’s not for the faint of heart and at times, it’s both provocative and hilarious. Being a VJ, Urfi Javed also has a certain vibrancy in the show that no other participant possesses. She also has a rebellious side where she breaks all the rules set by the society to live as she wants, making it interesting to have her as a character. That part of her personality is entertaining to watch, even if those are not the topics you bring up in a polite conversation.

What Doesn’t Work

This show ironically, has the title Follow Kar Lo Yaar, and although it is advertised as a reality show, it is not entirely as it comprises scripts and staging. This makes it less authentic than I had anticipated. It can be said the show belongs to the group of Reality TV Shows that are amusing but not innovative. It’s chaotic and often, as we’ve mentioned, very combative sounding, which is fun, I guess but it is not clinical sounding and it’s not ‘proper’, it’s not very streamlined. It was supposed to be cleaner; a more refined approach could have made a lot of difference.

Performances

The show has Urfi Javed in the center and she certainly knows how to own the attention. With her over the top energy, she carries the show and there’s a couple of amusing cameos here too. Still, as it is framed as reality television, standard measures of coarse performance do not work in this case.

Final Verdict

Follow Kar Lo Yaar is an entertaining look into Urfi Javed’s life. It delivers on its promise of being messy, controversial, and engaging. While it could benefit from a bit more polish and editing, it is still enjoyable for those looking for something light and entertaining. The show is now available for streaming on Prime Video.
