Sakura Miu: Early Trainee Days
Sakura Miu was one of the seven trainees at Source Music preparing for the debut of NewJeans. However, due to a recommendation from a shaman, Min Hee-jin, the project leader, decided to debut only five trainees. This decision left Sakura Miu out of the final lineup. Despite this setback, Sakura did not give up on her dreams.
Participation in Reality Survival Shows
After her time at Source Music, Sakura Miu participated in several South Korean reality survival shows. In 2021, she joined “Girls Planet 999,” a show that aimed to form a new girl group called Kep1er. Unfortunately, Sakura was eliminated in the eighth episode, finishing in eighth place among the Japanese contestants.
Undeterred by this, Sakura joined another reality show, “Produce 101 Japan The Girls.” This show brings together 101 contestants to form a permanent 11-member group. In April, Sakura ranked 4th in the competition and successfully debuted with the group ME. Unlike other survival show groups, ME is a permanent group.
Current Endeavors with ME
ME debuted with their single “Mirai” on April 17. The group is expected to release their second single soon, marking a significant milestone in Sakura Miu’s career. This debut represents Sakura’s persistence and determination to succeed in the highly competitive K-pop industry.
Background and Challenges
Sakura Miu’s journey began with her appearance in the Nizi Project in 2020, where she was a trainee under JYP Entertainment, aiming to debut with NiziU. However, she did not make it to the final lineup. Following this, she was recruited by Source Music and became part of the initial lineup for NewJeans. Despite the intense preparation and anticipation, the change in plans led to her exclusion from the final debut group.
