The Unexpected Call
Lallantop’s interview with Ajay Devgn narrated a hilarious yet memorable incident in his life. It occurred just as he was shooting a film in Hyderabad. At those times, people were not using mobile phones, but instead, they used the house phones or fixed phones. Ajay was in his hotel room, in the bathroom to be specific, having a shower when the phone rang.
When the phone rang, Ajay picked it up and the stranger at the other end said Mahesh Bhatt wanted to see him. Once again Ajay was thoroughly enjoying the film and surprisingly even when he was in the shower, he heard Mahesh Bhatt start to tell him the story of ‘Zakhm’. Since Ajay found himself in a rather uncomfortable position, he agreed to do the film immediately and without listening to the whole story. One day Devgn went to Bhatt and said, “Bhatt sahab, I am taking a shower now, I will do this film”. So, it’s how Ajay Devgn agreed to do ‘Zakhm’.
The Making of ‘Zakhm’
‘Zakhm’ is a very special film. Apart from Ajay Devgn, the movie features Kunal Kemmu, Nagarjuna, Sonali Bendre, and Pooja Bhatt, who is Mahesh Bhatt’s daughter. The film is based on the real-life story of Mahesh Bhatt’s mother, making it very personal for the director.
Ajay Devgn shared his experience of working with Mahesh Bhatt. He described it as a wonderful experience and mentioned that many scenes were so powerful that he didn’t have to act much; he just needed to feel the emotions.
He said, “There were a lot of situations where I was simply standing there and acting, but the scenes were so powerful that I was doing nothing but feeling the emotion.” Ajay also mentioned that Mahesh Bhatt rarely asked for retakes, which is different from how most directors work.
Mahesh Bhatt’s Last Film
Along with the words, Mahesh Bhatt stuck to his promise that ‘Zakhm’ was his last movie as a director. Ajay Devgn revealed that Bhatt did not change his mind and did not direct any more movies after ‘Zakhm’. The film was greatly appreciated by the audience and critics and is among the highlights of the director Mahesh bhatt’s career.
