Common’s Music Career
Common has been making music since the early 1990s and has won Grammy awards. But today, many people know him more for his acting in movies like Selma and The Hate U Give. Recently, Common shared a funny story about a young driver who didn’t know he was a rapper. The driver was surprised when Common sang his own songs in the car.
Pete Rock’s New Album
Common’s new album, The Auditorium Vol. 1, helps him reconnect with his music roots. He describes it as fresh and full of the energy that fans love. The album, arranged by Pete Rock, was released last Friday. Common feels this album captures the true spirit of the music he loves.
Inspired by Hip-Hop’s Legacy
Last August, Common was on stage, rapping at a large hip-hop concert that took place at the Yankee Stadium, with lots of other popular artists. This show was quite a wake up call for him and helped him realize how ageless hip-hop music is. Common has been rapping since he was 14 and noting the mass appreciation for rap music motivated him to produce this album.
Personal Inspirations
Common’s new album is also personal as he is a living example of the contents of the album. He speaks about living in Chicago and learning in school, his daughter Omoye who is 27 years and his girlfriend Jennifer Hudson who do vocals for one of the tracks. They can be seen to some extent as his true emotions which he lacks quick wit may not utter otherwise.
Common, whose real name is Lonnie Rashid Lynn, hints that he might make more albums with Pete Rock in the future. He suggests that The Auditorium Vol. 1 could be the first of many volumes.
