Akshay Kumar, a well-known Bollywood actor, recently shared his feelings about being criticized for working on multiple films each year. In a chat with Galatta, Akshay talked about how he feels and his thoughts on critics and comparisons in the film industry.
Akshay’s View on Hard Work
Akshay Kumar is known for speaking his mind. In the interview, he compared himself to a “Mahalaxmi ka ghoda” (a racehorse at Mahalaxmi Racecourse). He said that in the Hindi film industry, about 190-200 films are made each year, not counting the many South Indian films. With so many movies, Akshay wondered why people rank actors or criticize them for working hard. He believes everyone has enough work and that the focus should be on doing good work, not on competing.
Responding to Criticism for Doing Multiple Films
Akshay questioned the people on why they have a problem with the man doing four movies every year. I noticed that he said it was the first time someone pointed out to him as to why he works hard all the time. Akshay cannot comprehend why people are bothered by the fact that he is utilizing his time to be as productive as possible. He added that having many projects under his belt makes him active and valuable to the practice.
Thoughts on Film Reviews & Critics
Regarding his feelings about film reviews and critics, Akshay also had something to say. He noted that after being in the industry for many years a person gets to develop a tough skin however he admitted that he takes constructive criticism from industry peers. He said that currently, some critics reviews are available for purchase and they are not all genuine. Akshay still prizes a handful of positively-tinted critics and their opinions mean something to him. He pointed out that the review space has been flooded by many quacks with poor understanding of literature and experience.
Recent Work and Upcoming Projects
Akshay’s recent films, like “Bade Miyan Chote Miyan,” “Mission Raniganj,” and “Selfiee,” have not done well at the box office. However, he is hopeful about his upcoming film “Sarfira,” which will be released on July 12. “Sarfira” is the Hindi adaptation of the Tamil film “Soorarai Pottru” and is based on the life of GR Gopinath, who made affordable air travel possible for ordinary people in India.
