A close friend of Arnold's, comedian Chris Spencer, said the comedy world "mourns the loss of one of the greatest to do it." Arnold, a native of Cleveland, was described as being "admired by his contemporaries, respected by other veterans, and revered by the budding comedians that he taught," according to Spencer. His comedy community in particular will miss him greatly.
