According to reports, Coolio, a rapper and record producer best known for the singles "Gangsta's Paradise" and "Fantastic Voyage," has passed away. He was 59.

Jarez Posey, his longtime manager, confirmed the information to NBC News and Rolling Stone on Wednesday.

Artis Leon Ivey Jr., better known as Coolio, was actually born in Pennsylvania in 1963 but later relocated to Compton, California, where he was raised.

He started making records in the 1980s, and in 1995, when his song "Gangsta's Paradise" appeared in the Michelle Pfeiffer-starring movie "Dangerous Minds," his career took off.
