Ashley Judd stated that she experienced "trauma" and "horror" as a result of seeing her mother Naomi's suicide in front of the public.

One day before she was scheduled to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, the 76-year-old country singer committed suicide in April.

In a later court petition, the Judd family said that disclosing the police recordings and reports from the inquiry into her death would result in "severe pain and irreparable suffering."

shley said that her mother had committed herself and urged people to call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline despite being aware that the information would be made public (800-273-8255).

She stated that her family had agreed she should talk about her mother's passing in order to assist spread awareness of the reason for it and the resources that are available.

Ashley has now authored an article titled "The Right to Keep Private Pain Private" for The New York Times about the passing of her mother.

The most life-changing day for her was April 3, 2022, she wrote. "That day, my dear mother Naomi Judd committed herself because she had come to believe that her mental illness would only worsen and never get better.

"

Naomi lost a protracted struggle against a persistent foe who was ultimately too strong to be vanquished, she continued.

"

She said I was unable to assist her. However, I can influence how people remember her.

"

In order to "give some fundamental protections for people involved in the police response to mental health crisis," Ashley said she wanted legislation to be modified.
