Lil Nas X, the famous rapper behind hits like “Old Town Road,” has recently come under fire for allegedly copying the cover artwork of his new single. The artwork for his song, “Dreamboy,” has been compared to the cover for “Angel on My Shoulder,” a song by Sega Bodega released in 2021.
Lil Nas X Accused of Artwork Theft
Sega Bodega, the artist behind “Angel on My Shoulder,” expressed his frustration on social media, saying that Lil Nas X’s artwork looked very similar to his, even though it wasn’t given a fresh twist. Bodega pointed out that the two images feature a similar setup, with both artists sitting in front of old computers, illuminated by a glowing figure in a dark, wood-paneled room.

Bodega criticized Lil Nas X for not adding his own spin to the concept. He also pointed out that Lil Nas X did not properly credit the artist behind the original artwork, Aidan Zamiri. Bodega posted his thoughts on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “There is no credit.” Fans also joined in, calling out the rapper for copying without giving credit.
In response, Lil Nas X shared the image from Bodega’s artwork on his Instagram story, referring to it as a “ref” (reference) next to his promotional image. However, this response did not sit well with Bodega, who pointed out that the credit was not clear and that the artist was not tagged in a meaningful way.
This incident comes as Lil Nas X is launching his new project, with his upcoming single “Light Again” set to drop on November 15. Despite the controversy over the artwork, the rapper remains focused on his music, preparing for his fans to experience his new era.
This situation highlights the importance of crediting artists and creators for their work, as failure to do so can lead to accusations of plagiarism, even when the intention may not be malicious.
