Mimi Hines: Legendary Broadway Star

Born in Vancouver, Canada, in 1933, Hines began her journey in the entertainment world at a young age. By the time she was 12, she was performing in nightclubs, showcasing her talent for singing and comedy. In 1952, she met Phil Ford, a fellow entertainer, and the two became a popular comedy duo. They married in 1954 and were widely recognized for their appearances on television shows like The Ed Sullivan Show and The Tonight Show.

In 1965, Hines achieved major success when she took over the role of Fanny Brice in Funny Girl on Broadway, after Barbra Streisand stepped down. Her performance was praised, and she continued in the role for 18 months, captivating audiences with her singing and acting skills.

Throughout her career, Hines appeared in several other theater productions such as I Do, I Do!, Sugar Babies, and The Unsinkable Molly Brown. She also recorded several albums, including Mimi Hines Sings, showcasing her powerful voice.

Hines and Ford divorced in 1972 but remained connected professionally until Ford’s death in 2005. Hines never had children, but her impact on the entertainment industry was profound. She was honored with a star on the Palm Springs Walk of Fame, a tribute to her contributions to Broadway and comedy.
