Denis Villeneuve, director of the highly praised Dune films, recently shared his views on using Artificial Intelligence (AI) in filmmaking. He believes that while AI might bring some interesting aspects to the process, it can never replace the human touch in storytelling.

During the conversation, Villeneuve also shared insights into his creative process while making Dune. He spoke about the design of the sandworms, explaining how his background in biology helped him and the production team create these creatures in a realistic way. They studied animal species to figure out how the sandworms’ skin would survive in a harsh desert environment.
Villeneuve also revealed that Dune: Part Two focuses heavily on the love story between the main characters, Paul (played by Timothée Chalamet) and Chani (played by Zendaya). He expressed how important it is to reshoot scenes when necessary, even though it might feel discouraging at the moment.
Looking ahead, Villeneuve confirmed that a third sequel, based on Dune Messiah, is already in development and will explore the story 12 years after the events of the first novel.
In summary, while Denis Villeneuve finds AI interesting, he remains firm that true creativity in filmmaking must remain a deeply human experience.
