Lance Bass, a member of the popular boy band *NSYNC, recently shared an incident from 2002 that made him form a negative opinion about rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs. During a recent appearance on Watch What Happens Live, Bass revealed how he overheard Diddy urging Justin Timberlake to leave *NSYNC pursued a solo career, which led to hard feelings.
Lance Bass Dislikes Diddy
The incident took place during the last show of *NSYNC’s “Celebrity” tour in Orlando. Diddy was the opening act for the band at that time. Bass explained that he overheard Diddy telling Timberlake, “You need to drop these guys and go solo.” For Bass, it was a shock to hear such advice, especially during their own tour.
Bass expressed how this made him dislike Diddy, saying, “I was like, ‘I don’t like you anymore, Diddy. At my own show? What the hell?’” Bass felt the comment was out of place and disrespectful, given that *NSYNC was performing together for their fans.

Not long after the end of *NSYNC’s tour, Justin Timberlake took the advice and started his solo career. His debut solo album, Justified, was released in November 2002, and it became a huge success, marking the
e beginning of his career as a solo artist. Although *NSYNC was already dealing with internal issues, Diddy’s words seemed to have influenced Timberlake’s decision.
Bass’ revelation comes at a time when Diddy is facing serious legal troubles. His ex-girlfriend Cassie accused him of sexual, physical, and emotional abuse in a lawsuit filed in November 2023, which was resolved quickly but opened the door to more allegations against the rapper.
In another lawsuit, a woman named Thalia Graves accused Combs and his bodyguard of assaulting her at the Bad Boy studio in 2001. She claimed the assault was recorded without her consent, which left her emotionally disturbed. In September 2023, Combs was arrested in New York City and faced a 14-page indictment, accusing him of serious crimes, including sex trafficking, racketeering, and running illegal activities.
