Justin Timberlake's DWI Case: No Special Treatment, Assures Hamptons DA

Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney has assured the public that Justin Timberlake’s recent driving while intoxicated (DWI) case is being handled like any other, despite reports suggesting the pop star may be negotiating a plea deal to reduce the charges.

No Special Treatment for Justin Timberlake

Justin Timberlake was arrested in June in Sag Harbor, New York, for allegedly running a stop sign and driving under the influence. After the arrest, he refused a breathalyzer test but reportedly failed several field sobriety tests. Justin Timberlake, who claimed he had only one martini, has denied being intoxicated. As a result of the arrest, his driver’s license was suspended.

There have been rumors that Timberlake might reach a plea deal that would reduce his DWI charge to a lesser offense, such as a traffic violation. However, DA Tierney has emphasized that his office is committed to fairness and treating every case equally, regardless of a person’s fame or status.

Tierney told Page Six, “He’s charged with driving while intoxicated… [Then] there’s a lesser charge as driving while impaired, which happens in a number of cases. So we’re going to continue to negotiate the case.” He explained that the negotiation process involves discussions between the prosecution, defense, and court to reach a fair outcome.

He made it clear that they are not giving any special treatment to Timberlake because of his celebrity status. “We don’t want to treat any defendant better than others because of any perceived notoriety they may have,” Tierney stated. “At the same time, we certainly don’t want to treat people worse for the same reason.”

Tierney’s office handles a high volume of cases, around 54,000 each year. While the Timberlake case has received significant media attention, it is being treated as a misdemeanor and is not considered as serious as more severe cases, such as murder or felony charges.

The case continues to be under negotiation, and no final decisions have been made about a plea deal. Timberlake’s lawyer, Edward Burke Jr., has not commented on the status of the agreement.
