In an interview with Total Film, Farrell shared that the long hours spent in the makeup chair took a toll on him. He admitted that while he loved the role, he became frustrated and eager for the process to end. He said, “I loved it – but it got on me a little bit. By the end of it, I was being and moaning to anyone who would listen to me that I wanted it to be finished.”

Despite the physical and mental strain, Farrell appreciated the creative work done by showrunner Lauren LeFranc and prosthetics expert Mike Marino. He felt privileged to be part of the Penguin’s legacy, noting his admiration for previous actors in the role like Burgess Meredith and Danny DeVito.

Looking ahead, Farrell expressed openness to returning as The Penguin, but he needs some time to recover from the exhausting makeup process. The series, which explores the Penguin’s rise in the Gotham criminal world, will air on HBO from September 19, 2024, to November 10, 2024.
