O’Romeo Box Office Day 1: Shahid Kapoor’s Film Beats Deva And Jersey With Rs 8.25 Crore Opening

Shahid Kapoor’s new film O’Romeo has made a decent start at the Indian box office. The romantic-action drama, directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, collected around Rs 8.25 crore net on its opening day. While the numbers are not massive, the film has performed better than many of Shahid’s recent releases.

The film recorded an overall occupancy of 14.86% in theatres on Friday. This shows that the movie has managed to pull in audiences steadily, especially considering the competitive box office space.

Better Opening Than Deva, Jersey And TBMAUJ

When compared to Shahid Kapoor’s previous films, O’Romeo has opened higher. Deva had earned Rs 5.50 crore on its first day. Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya collected Rs 6.70 crore, while Jersey had opened at Rs 3.2 crore.

With Rs 8.25 crore on Day 1, O’Romeo stands among Shahid’s stronger recent openings. Though it is not his biggest opener overall, it shows a positive trend and gives the film a good base for the weekend.

Strong Star Cast And Big Production Backing

Apart from Shahid Kapoor and Triptii Dimri, the film features Nana Patekar, Avinash Tiwary, Vikrant Massey and Tamannaah Bhatia in important roles. The film is backed by Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, adding to its scale and reach.

The mix of romance, action and intense drama has created curiosity among moviegoers. Vishal Bhardwaj, known for his layered storytelling and music-driven narratives, brings his signature style to this project as well.

Vishal Bhardwaj’s Emotional Note Before Release

Before the film hit theatres, Vishal Bhardwaj shared a heartfelt message expressing pride in the film. He said the journey of making O’Romeo made him realise how deeply he can feel both love and violence as a storyteller. He thanked his entire team, especially the heads of departments, for giving more than what was expected from them.

His note reflected how personal the film is for him, even before critics and box office numbers began to judge it.

Positive Early Reviews Add Support

Film critic Saibal Chatterjee rated O’Romeo 3.5 out of 5 stars in his review. He described the film as vivid and emotionally intense, highlighting its strong use of music to support the story. The review also mentioned that the characters are flawed and complex, and the narrative avoids being predictable. Such early appreciation could help the film grow over the weekend, especially through word of mouth.

With a solid Day 1 collection and positive early reviews, O’Romeo now depends on how it performs over the weekend. If the numbers grow on Saturday and Sunday, the film could emerge as one of Shahid Kapoor’s more successful recent projects. For now, O’Romeo has given Shahid Kapoor a steady start at the box office and placed itself ahead of his last few releases.
