Madras High Court Grants Anti-Piracy Relief To Protect Shahid Kapoor’s O’Romeo Before Release

Shahid Kapoor’s upcoming film O’Romeo has received strong legal protection just days before its theatrical release. The Madras High Court has granted an interim anti-piracy order to prevent any unauthorised broadcast or online circulation of the film.

The order comes as a relief for the makers, who were concerned about possible leaks before the film hits theatres on February 13, 2026.

Court Restrains Unauthorised Broadcast And Online Circulation

Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy passed the interim order in a civil suit filed by Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, the production house behind the film. The court restrained internet service providers (ISPs) and cable television operators from broadcasting, transmitting, or sharing the film without permission.

The court observed that pre-release piracy can cause serious financial damage to producers. Once a film is leaked online, the loss cannot be reversed. This is especially important for big-budget films that depend heavily on box office collections in the first few days.

At the same time, the court also noted that broad anti-piracy orders should not harm the genuine business activities of service providers. To balance both sides, the court directed that the producer must give an indemnity undertaking. This means the producer will compensate respondents if any legitimate business loss happens because of the court’s order.

Legal Steps Taken Before Theatrical Release

The production house moved the court after expressing concern that the film could be illegally circulated before or immediately after its release. With the interim injunction in place, the makers now have an added layer of security.

This legal move highlights how seriously Bollywood producers are taking piracy issues. In today’s digital age, films are at risk of being leaked within hours, which directly affects box office performance.

Recently, a Mumbai court had also dismissed an application seeking to stop the film’s release. With that matter settled and this anti-piracy order in place, O’Romeo is now clear to release in theatres without legal obstacles.

About Shahid Kapoor’s O’Romeo

O’Romeo is an upcoming Hindi action thriller directed by Vishal Bhardwaj and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala under the banner of Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment. The film stars Shahid Kapoor in the lead role alongside Triptii Dimri and Nana Patekar.

The story is inspired by Hussain Zaidi’s Mafia Queens of Mumbai and is set against the backdrop of Mumbai’s underworld. With Vishal Bhardwaj’s direction and Shahid Kapoor’s intense screen presence, expectations are already high.

As the release date approaches, the court’s decision has brought relief to the makers. With piracy concerns addressed for now, all focus shifts to the film’s performance at the box office.
