Sonu Sood Supports Rajpal Yadav in ₹9 Crore Debt Crisis, Offers Him Film Role and Signing Amount

Sonu Sood Supports Rajpal Yadav in ₹9 Crore Debt Crisis, Offers Him Film Role and Signing Amount

Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav is currently facing one of the toughest times in his life. He was recently sent to Tihar Jail over a ₹9 crore debt and cheque bounce case. Just before surrendering, Rajpal made an emotional confession about his financial struggles, saying he had no one to turn to for help. In a heartwarming gesture, actor Sonu Sood has stepped forward to support him.

Rajpal Yadav’s Emotional Confession

Before going to Tihar, Rajpal opened up about the severe financial crisis he is facing. He admitted that despite being in the film industry for years, he had no friends or support to rely on in this difficult time. “Sir, kya karoon? Mere paas paise nahin hain. Aur koi upaay nahin dikhta,” he said, explaining that he could not see another way to resolve his debts. He also mentioned that he could not turn to friends like Priyadarshan for help, saying, “Sir, yahan hum sab akele hain.”

Sonu Sood Offers Professional Support

“Rajpal Yadav is a gifted actor who has given years of unforgettable work to our industry. Sometimes life turns unfair, not because of talent, but because timing can be brutal. He will be part of my film. A small signing amount, adjustable against future work, is not charity; it’s dignity,” Sonu wrote.

He also urged other members of the film industry—producers, directors, and colleagues—to step forward and stand by Rajpal during this tough phase.

Legal Troubles and Financial Issues

Rajpal Yadav’s legal troubles started in 2010 when he borrowed ₹5 crore from Delhi-based Murali Projects Pvt Ltd for his directorial debut, Ata Pata Laapata (2012). The film failed at the box office, which led to a repayment crisis. After seven cheques issued to the complainant bounced, Rajpal and his wife, Radha, were convicted under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act in 2018.

Despite approaching the Delhi High Court with a revision petition, Rajpal’s debts kept increasing and reached nearly ₹9 crore. Even after depositing ₹75 lakh in 2025 and offering further payments, the court noted that most of the liability remained unpaid. On February 5, 2026, Rajpal surrendered to Tihar Jail to serve a six-month sentence after the court rejected his last-minute plea for an extension.

Industry Support in Tough Times

Sonu Sood’s gesture highlights the importance of solidarity in the Bollywood industry. He said, “When one of our own is going through a tough phase, the industry must remind him he’s not alone. This is how we show we are more than just an industry.”

Rajpal Yadav, known for his comic roles and versatile performances, now has the support of colleagues like Sonu Sood, showing that even in difficult times, compassion and professional respect can make a big difference.
