Mayasabha Final Box Office Collection Ends at ₹60 Lakh as Rahi Anil Barve Film Struggles in Theatres

Mayasabha Final Box Office Collection Ends at ₹60 Lakh as Rahi Anil Barve Film Struggles in Theatres

Mayasabha: The Hall of Illusion, directed by Rahi Anil Barve, has completed its theatrical run with disappointing box office numbers. The film managed to collect only around ₹60 lakh in India during its entire run. Despite being the director’s second film after the cult favourite Tumbbad, Mayasabha failed to attract a wide audience to theatres.

Mayasabha Box Office Performance

The film showed some movement during its opening weekend but could not maintain momentum after that. Most of its earnings came from the first week itself. From the second weekend onwards, the collections dropped sharply, and the film struggled to stay visible at cinemas.

Nearly 95 percent of Mayasabha’s total box office collection was earned within the opening week. After that, the film barely added to its total, leading to an early end to its theatrical journey.

Limited Release and Tough Competition

One major reason behind the weak box office performance was the limited release. Mayasabha was released on January 30 with very few shows across India. On the same day, Rani Mukerji’s Mardaani 3 also hit theatres, which dominated screens and audience attention.

Due to fewer shows and less visibility, Mayasabha did not get enough space to grow through word-of-mouth. As collections dipped, shows were reduced further, making it harder for the film to recover.

Budget vs Box Office Reality

Interestingly, Mayasabha: The Hall of Illusion was made on a modest budget of under ₹1 crore. Because of this, the film had a chance to emerge as a small success if it had sustained steady collections over a longer period.

However, the weak hold after the first weekend stopped that from happening. Even with a low budget, the final numbers were not enough to give the film a positive box office verdict. It has now been declared a flop at the box office.

Performances and Film Strengths

While the box office numbers tell a dull story, the film did receive appreciation for certain aspects. The performances of Jaaved Jaaferi, Veena Jamkar, Deepak Daml, and Mohammad Samad were noted for their sincerity.

The film was also praised for its cinematography, mood, and unique storytelling style. Its psychological and mystic elements stood out, especially for viewers who enjoy slow-burning and layered cinema.

Comparison With Tumbbad’s Journey

Interestingly, Mayasabha has followed a similar theatrical path to Tumbbad, Rahi Anil Barve’s first film. Tumbbad too struggled during its original theatrical run but later gained popularity over time among cinema lovers.

It remains to be seen whether Mayasabha will find a similar second life through later discovery. For now, its theatrical performance has ended on a disappointing note.

Rahi Anil Barve’s Upcoming Work

With Mayasabha now out of theatres, attention has shifted to Rahi Anil Barve’s next project. Despite back-to-back films facing box office challenges, his storytelling style continues to stand out as different from mainstream cinema.

Whether Mayasabha gains appreciation later or not, its theatrical journey highlights once again how difficult it is for niche films to survive in crowded release windows.
